George and Mary Rawson came to Australia on board the ship 'Boamerges' which arrived in Victoria in July 1862. According to family stories Henry, their first child, was born either at sea or shortly after arriving. However, after investigating this on the Victorian Marine Births Deaths and marriage CD, there is no listing of a Rawson being born at sea in 1862.

The 1908 Ratepayers Register for Walhalla found at the Walhalla Museum contains the following information: George Rawson - Miner, House Allotment 139 Mary Rawson - Home Duties

(Source - Belinda Simpson)

He became a farmer at some stage and his farm was on Allotments 7 and 7a, Parish of Moondarra, which look to be right in the middle of the town of Rawson.

As a miner he was declared insolvent in 1867, but discharged from insolvency in April 1868. See Trove Newspaper Clippings.
